A world first from Central Switzerland
Cowa's technology is based on phase change materials made from salt hydrates. At Suurstoffi Rotkreuz, not far from our headquarters in Root, the world's largest heat storage facility using this type of phase change material is being put into operation. The technology was developed entirely in Central Switzerland and was installed with the help of local partners.
By retrofitting Cowa BOOSTER Capsules, the switch-on cycles of the valuable heat pump have been reduced to almost a third. This significantly extends the service life of our infrastructure without any loss of comfort.
Description of the property
Building A:
- 18 residential units
- Central heat pump
- Underfloor heating
- 2,000 litre buffer tank
Building B:
- 18 residential units
- Central heat pump
- Underfloor heating
- 2,000 litre buffer tank (retrofitted with Cowa BOOSTER Capsules 35)
Results
Thanks to the increased storage capacity, the heat pump can remain switched on for longer and therefore does not have to switch on again until later. Switch-on cycles are generally detrimental to the lifetime of a heat pump. The simple retrofitting with Cowa's technology will protect the heat pump in future and extend its lifetime.
A comparison with the neighbouring building of identical construction shows that the heat pump only has to perform a third of the switch-on cycles.
Heating system for the future
Thanks to this simple retrofit with Cowa's technology, the heat pump has fewer switch-on cycles. Operation is therefore more gentle without any loss of comfort and the lifetime of the valuable machine can be extended. Another step into the future for the Suurstoffi flagship site in Rotkreuz.
